Students can begin lessons at any with a Learner’s Permit.
However, we have found that the best outcomes are from students who gain some hours on the road, without doing too many before having their first lesson (think 15-20 hours).
This enables confidence to build, yet not too long to learn incorrect driving procedures, which can be difficult to teach if strong habits have already been formed.
After an initial 2-3 lessons*. a student can then take their correct skills to the roads to practice for the majority of their remaining required driving hours, before another few lessons to ‘polish’ them up prior to sitting their VORT.
*Actual amount of lessons will depend on individual student.

The Vehicle On Road Test ((VORT) will test your skills and knowledge as a driver and goes for approximately 45 minutes.
During the VORT, you must demonstrate the 5 slow vehicle manoeuvres and a general safe and competent drive to a satisfactory pass of at least 90/100.
If you are unsuccessful, feedback will be provided by the examiner, and additional lessons can be sought if required. By law you will need to wait 14 days to resit the VORT.

All lessons are booked on the understanding that they must be paid for in full at least 24hours prior to commencement.
Rescheduling within 48 hours of the lesson will require a 50% cancellation fee. Lessons cancelled within 24hours will be charged the full lesson fee.
In certain circumstances, an alternate arrangement may be made but is at the complete discretion of Hill Start Driver Education.
